Weleda debuts mix-and-match serum drops for modular beauty routines

Weleda has launched six, all-natural, vegan Serum Booster Drops powered by plant-based actives. Each Serum Booster Drop pairs a scientifically proven active ingredient, developed and clinically tested in Weleda’s Swiss laboratories, with a selected plant extract to deliver targeted skin results.

The range includes Hyaluronic Moisture Serum Drops with snow mushroom, Pores Refining Vitamin C and E Serum Drops with cranberry, Glow Perfecting Serum Drops with licorice, Extra Rich omega Serum Drops with avocado oil, Sunkissed Bronzing Serum Drops with yuzu, and Slow Aging Astaxanthin Serum Drops infused with white tea extract. 

Personal Care Insights speaks to Elizabeth King, Weleda’s holistic skin care expert about the growing demand for customized beauty routines and bridging the gap between traditional holistic remedies and the modern skin care market.

“Proven to deliver both immediate and long-term skin health through nature’s science, plant-based boosters act as a great entry point into holistic remedies, heightening awareness of the efficacy of botanical actives and making holistic skin care more accessible in the modern skin care market, which traditionally leans more toward synthetic chemical formulations,” says King.

The brand notes that the concentrated boosters have been designed to mix and match daily, allowing individual routines to be adapted based on specific skin needs. Users can combine one or two drops into their daily moisturizer to provide a targeted boost or use the serum alone for a more intensive treatment. 

Weleda’s holistic skin care expert Elizabeth King says Weleda’s serum drops balance skin sensitivity with efficacy. This approach offers tailored skin care routines and a personalized alternative to  “one-size-fits-all” solutions. The product launch reflects the broader trend of modular beauty, whereby the user has direct control over product potency. 

Weleda’s consumer market research conducted on 1,000 women, ages 20-40, revealed that 86% agreed that Weleda’s booster drops “allow me to personalize my skin care routine,” with 84% disclosing “I like it because I can mix it with my face care products.” 

Skin-boosting botanicals

The natural cosmetics brand leverages scientifically proven active ingredients for their antioxidant and skin-rejuvenating properties. It reflects an emerging category where heritage brands incorporate actives to remain relevant to younger, ingredient-savvy consumers.

Additionally, the targeted serums cater to the consumer preference for products that deliver multipurpose functions with science-substantiated claims. Consumers are seeking fewer products and simplified beauty routines. 

“Having less in your cupboard without compromising on efficacy is an increasing consumer demand,” adds King.

“Expectations are rising to easy-to-use, purposeful, multi-functional products with highly concentrated ingredients to target specific skin needs and boost daily care.” 

The Hyaluronic Moisture Serum Drops claims to deliver targeted hydration to the skin for 24 hours. It is infused with a blend of long—and medium-chain hyaluronic acid, plus hydrating snow mushroom. The serum is fragrance-free and visibly plumps skin. The serum was tested in a two-week study, and the product was applied twice daily. All participants agreed that their skin looked more plump and bouncy, and 97% said it appeared more radiant.

The lightweight Pore Refining Vitamin C & E Serum Drops claims to reduce impurities and refine pores while visibly smoothing the complexion. A clinical trial measured two application methods: tThe modular system reflects the shift toward personalized beauty routines. wice daily for seven weeks and twice daily for four weeks. After seven weeks, 90% witnessed improved hyperpigmentation and 87% smaller pores. After four weeks, 84% expressed a more even skin tone. 

The Glow Perfecting Serum Drops combine mineral pigments and organic licorice root extract to deliver radiance with added skin benefits. User results showed that after applying the serum twice daily for 8 weeks, 90% agreed that their skin appeared more luminous, and 83% showed hyperpigmentation brightening. 

The Extra Rich Omega Serum Drops harnesses a blend of omega-3, -6, and -9 fatty acids with plant oils to strengthen the skin barrier by delivering essential lipids to dry, irritated, or sensitive skin. Avocado, sunflower, apricot, jojoba, sea buckthorn, and wheat germ claim to boost skin benefits, offering “intensive care.” After two applications, users said the skin barrier was strengthened. 

The Sunkissed Bronzing Serum Drops combine mineral pigments to deliver an instant bronzed glow with fruit yuzu to boost skin hydration. Weleda says the serum can be used under makeup as a skin primer. In a test, after applying the product daily for two weeks, 90% agreed that the skin had a healthy tanned color, and 100% witnessed instant skin hydration.

Meanwhile, the Slow Aging Astaxanthin Serum Drops with white tea offer daily defense against free radicals and oxidative stress. The cell protection formula is supported by olive leaf and pomegranate peel extracts and nourishing jojoba and sunflower oils, designed to slow visible signs of skin aging. After 15 minutes, instant antioxidant protection was observed, while clinical trials showed that after two weeks of application, the serum helped to strengthen the skin’s defense.

Weleda has not specified the number of participants or the subjects’ skin types, ages, or ethnicities in the individual serum trials. 

Naturally holistic

Weleda’s vegan formulas align with the clean, holistic beauty movement. The launch reflects a wider industry shift toward natural, plant-based ingredients and sustainable packaging in a category dominated by synthetic additives and plastic waste.

The mix-and-match serums cater to consumer demand for multi-functional products. King believes that the growing consumer demand for clean actives in skin care results from increased skin sensitivity and rosacea, often caused by complicated and invasive skin-confusing routines. She says Weleda’s serum drops balance skin sensitivity with efficacy by using natural ingredients. 

“Nature’s science is both complex and clever. Natural ingredients contain many components, each having a specific function and working together as a team. The natural ingredient, with its components, delivers a balanced (holistic approach) and targeted potent action. Synthetic ingredients tend to be isolated in their function and can lead to skin sensitivity and increased reactivity.”

Blending holistic tradition with contemporary booster format is an approach that the skin expert cites as shaping the future of skin care.
